Canucks call up Grabner

After a disappointing pre-season, the Canucks have called up winger Michael Grabner. Grabner has 6 points in 5 games with Manitoba this year, let’s hope he can continue that production with the big team. For more info on this story, check out Canucks.com.

Shirokov sent down

The dream is over, at least for now. Sergei Shirokov has been sent down to Manitoba. For the most part, he was invisible in the 3 games he played to start the season. Bit of a disappointment, but he’ll have more chances in the near future.

Canucks lose to Flames in season opener

Final Score: Vancouver 3 – Calgary 5

Goals: Bieksa, Burrows, Samuelsson

Assists: D. Sedin, H. Sedin, Mitchell, Edler, Ehrhoff

Well we were all wondering when the Canucks undefeated streak would come to an end, too bad it was the regular season opener. The Canucks didn’t show up until the third period, and at that point it was too late to make a comeback. I don’t think anyone really stood out tonight. The one bright spot was some good play by Mikael Samuelsson, which resulted in his first goal as a Canuck.

Next Game: Saturday October 3rd, Canucks @ Avalanche, Noon on Sportsnet Pacific

Canucks reduce pre-season roster by three

Nycholat, Funk and Lukowich have been sent to the AHL. I’m not really surprised about Nycholat or Funk, and I think Lukowich was a victim of a deep Canucks defense corps. Read more at Canucks.com.

Hodgson sent back to junior

Cody Hodgson isn’t ready for the prime time. Today the Canucks announced that they’re sending him back to his junior team, the Brampton Battalion, for the season. It’s really too bad they aren’t allowed to send him to Manitoba, as he would have more to gain from playing in the AHL.

Parrish released

Today the Canucks announced that they have released forward Mark Parrish. Not a huge surprise here, Parrish had been more or less invisible in the pre-season games he played for Vancouver. Might have been a nice depth player to keep down on the farm, but he’s offically moving on. More info at Canucks.com.
